We recently had the privilege of screening our films in partnership with the British Council , Chennai, at their esteemed library. The event opened with a warm welcome speech from Vijayalakshmi T (Viji), followed by my opening remarks. A special thanks goes to Janaka Pushpanathan, Viji, and the entire British Council team for their amazing support in organizing this screening. Their commitment to promoting inclusivity through the arts is truly commendable. A special mention to Anitha Sivakumar from British Council, Aakash Manokaran, the project manager from our YWTC Trust, and Nithya Giri, our sign language interpreter, for their valuable contributions.
For the first time, we screened versions of our films with sign language interpretation, a proud moment for all of us, especially as it coincided with the International Sign Languages Day on 23rd September.
The event also featured insightful panel discussions with the cast and crew, as well as our CSR partner Fiserv. Gopakumar Subramonian, a senior leader at Fiserv, participated in the Stride panel alongside Sai Krishnan, Vijay Sakthian Rajaraman, and myself. The Beyond the Court panel included Krishna Satyam D , Thayumana subramaniam S, Lokesh Thangam V, and me. These discussions were expertly moderated by Thirupurasundari, where panellists shared their experiences in making these films and the impact they have had on raising awareness.
We were honored to have Ashok, Head of Programming at PVR Limited , join us. PVR’s continued support in screening our films across different cities has been phenomenal, and we deeply appreciate their dedication to our cause. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our well-wishers, Ranjith Melarkode, Rajasekharan Pazhaniappan, and Srivatsan S, for their presence and encouragement. Screening was attended by students from various colleges and British Council Library members.
We are proud to have partnered with the Film and Television Institute of India in arranging filmmaking courses for persons with disabilities, and the films screened were created using the incredible talent of the participants from these courses.
The films were exceptionally well received by the audience, and we couldn’t be prouder of the impact they’ve made. A special shoutout to Kannan Venkatesh a participant in our smartphone filmmaking course, for capturing the event through his lens.
